Opening Up Memories and Chatboard
Some people have asked me why we have to be Friends for them to sign my Chatboard (or leave a Memory). Good question! We set it up that way to prevent people spamming Chatboards and Memories. But so many people have asked us to open it up, we thought we’d do just that.
Now, any Xangan will be able to post to your Chatboard or leave Memories. It’s a great low key way to say hello and just meet other cool Xangans. But if you’d prefer to keep your Chatboard and Memories “Friends only”, no problem – Joel programmed it so that you can easily change your Privacy Preferences:
You can also invite all your subs to be friends!

or give users ability to enable the chatboards on the weblog? give it’s more exposure

Hm. I like having the option to do that. It makes me smile inside.
Though, it makes me wonder how many custom Xanga layouts will be changed and added on to, all that, within the next few months.
And, like sltse said, it might be something peachy do enable the actual boards on the weblog. However, that’s what a lot of people use Flooble Chatterboxes for.

Nah, I won’t do this feature. If I wanted hundreds of “Friends” to “have”, but do nothing with, I would join myspace. If I want to share ideas, and comment on others’ ideas, that’s what Xanga is for.

hey uhm i have a question, for ur weblog entry it says i cant download anymore pictures cuz i already used up my 10mb or something for the month . does it start over every month? I don’t think anyone uses the friends and memories features, at least, not anyone I know. Too myspace-y. The flooble chatbox seems to have a lot of problems whenever I try to put one up, so I think xanga should make the chatboard be visible on your xanga.

I want the option where when you post a comment and mess up, you can edit or delete the comment. Sometimes it’s embarrassing when you post up a bad comment accidently and you have to post another comment to correct the error.
The problem with this is that no one knows how to use this stuff, and thats why they aren’t using it. Why not write an entry explaining all these new features? And if one of these exists.. will someone please direct me to it? wtf thanks.

I like that you can invite all subscribers at once — that’s a great feature.
Many of them have answered me. But what about the others? If I click to invite all subscribers again at some future point, will it re-invite those who are already friends, or just the subscribers who aren’t friends yet?

When I first joined Xanga, it was to have a weblog, not a stupid profile where you can have a bunch of “friends” and what not. That’s what Myspace is for. That’s why Myspace is so stupid and I hate it. Xanga should stop selling out and trying to be like Myspace. I love Xanga just the way it has always been.

I was wondering if we could have a keyword search. Sometimes I want to go back and look for certain entries, but I don’t remember when I wrote them. If we could keyword search our own xanga, that would help. Or do we already have that?

What I’d like to know is, the chatboard is useless….it’s nothing…I thought it was some sort of chat room…but it isn’t…so what the hell is the point of having it?….I mean wtf!….And another thing…the memories thing was ok I guess…but how do I know if anyone looks at them?…and hell why have that?…Like anyone gives a flying fuck about my memories? that I can’t remember anyway. lol…I can go on and on…

I have a question though: How come smiley boxes won’t work anymore? I used to have a very cute smiley set with a flamingo on it and ever since xanga has begun some changes, my smiley set stopped showing on my xanga, so like, I have to remove it. *sad*

You guys really are doing an exceptional job with Xanga lately, but I have a couple more suggestions.
1) I’ve been saying it for ages, it seems. Set up an option to allow non-Xangans to leave comment.
2) If it is possible, it would be awesome if you gave us the ability to edit our photoblog and profile page layouts via look and feel.
I know these things are never as easy to do as they are to suggest, but I think they would be quite a worthwhile effort! Thanks
