XANGA PHOTOS: More Uploads and More Storage
Since we’ve been adding a lot more photo servers, upgrading our equipment, and making tweaks to our photo features, we’re finally able to upgrade everyone’s storage and upload limits. Also this will help the Xangans that are taking many more pictures and using crazy complex cameras that take higher quality pictures. Thanks to Janet, we’ll start with our Premium members first – here’s how it will improve:

Yup! That’s right – UNLIMITED. When dan first said we could do this, I thought he was crazy. Here’s how that conversation went down:

But it makes sense. I just bought a Nikon D50 SLR camera and was surprised on how quickly I would hit limits when uploading. Now with these new limits, people like me don’t have to worry so much! We’ll eventually bump our classic users too, but thought our premium users could enjoy their new and much greater limits first.
Sooo, everybody go nuts. Feel free to upload photos with more storage and more uploads!

or you could program some sort of resizer so that photos wouldn’t be so big… kinda like facebook. how big do photos need to be to tell a story anyway? and that’s the primary purpose of photos here isn’t it? of course, if you’re gonna NEED a bigger photo (like for backgrounds and such) there could be an option that you could check off.. just my thoughts

EVER SINCE YOU HAVE CHANGED THIS I CAN’T UPLOAD PICTURES AT ALL ON MY SITE WITHOUT GOING THROUGH PHOTOBUCKET & TRIED EMAILING HELP & HAVE GOTTEN NO ANSWER! I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING DIFFERENT ON MY COMPUTER & ALL MY PHOTOS ARE IN THE .JPG FORMAT & I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE SAYING INVALID FORMAT & I NEED TO CHANGE IT TO .JPG BUT IT ALREADY IS IN THAT FORMAT. how about not compressing our photo uploads? Comparably, whenever I upload, I can tell the difference between one that’s the original and one through Xanga.
P.S. Can you reinstate url-linked profile pictures? I’m tired of my profile pics giving me a faux-mustache and/or adding 10 years to me with “wrinkles.”

I’m having trouble with everything. I don’t know where to go to upload Christian music to my site. I don’t know how to find profile pictures for my site. I don’t know how to add video’s to my site. I also don’t know how to understand anything that deals with xanga because I’m just not to swift about computer jargon. I just learned about what a url is. So my time here at xanga has not been the best. I assure you that I’m not dumb. LOL Just trying to get help is like pulling teeth, so what do I do?

Holy cows in India, Batman! Can you say “buh bye Photobucket”? Now, I’d like to be able to tweak the photo album feature a little better. Like once I create a photo album (albeit, I’ve created only one) I’d like the pics to stored/displayed only in there as if it were a folder. Is this in the foreseeable future, or do I just need to play more with this feature? Oh . . . and Dan, Chris is right, you’re crazy . . . and I’m glad you are!

I signed up for Premium plus because when i first read the plans I learnt “plus” has unlimited storage, and now you are telling me I only had 20GB before and its only today thats been upgraded to unlimited??!
I feel a bit cheated.
Nice. A great method for saving space on uploading is using a “Save For Web” command. I use Photoshop to resize and compress all my images, this way the files are only 30-40 kb instead of massive mb files.

I don’t know if this is a common issue, but my photos keep disappearing. The ones that disappear all seem to be on the same server. I reupload them to a different server, and they’re fine — but then other pictures disappear later.
This may seem like a pain to you, but its important to me and a few others that all these hatred sites get shut down. This is just a few of the blogrings that we’ve found that are offensive to others; mostly hate groups. And its uncomfortable being on xanga with all of these groups here.
I don’t think its possible for any of us to find all the hate groups, but were working on at least getting some of these shut down, just to make xanga better and cleaner. Sarah (xanga.com/neotericc) came up with this idea, after she clued you in about the other hate blog.
Sorry if you think this is a waste of time; but freedom of speech has gone too far.

File storage and sharing would be really useful to me. More useful to me personally than 10 gigs of photo storage.

We need URL-linked profile pics and the ability to set any already uploaded photos as a profile pic. And you need to make the javascript module accept things like the amber alert ticker and RSS feed tickers. You also need to allow the RSS feeds published by Xanga to be read by Google & Yahoo (or allow users the option of doing so).
im just gonna have to stick with the same old same old … since i can’t afford? am? .. ohh well! too bad…

Second off, the Virtual Directory listing in https://register.xanga.com/ doesn’t allow us peons to access the contents being served there, so I was wondering if that was intended or not.

a few things…
first, thanks for all the extra storage. I have Premium, and I’m pretty sure one gig is more than enough space for me. you guys are awesome.
second, have you ever considered making some sort of folder system for the Photo Manager? I have a decent number of photos uploaded and can’t really clean out anymore, so I hate having to click through however many pages of them. it would be so nice to be able to be able to organize them in some folders (as opposed to albums) just for my own sanity.
third, why does nothing happen when I click the Save Changes button when editing photo properties or on other photo pages? I am trying not to get frustrated about this in light of all the wonderful things you guys at Xanga have been doing in the photo department lately, but this little snag still sucks.
fourth, thanks again for being so amazing. Xanga keeps getting better, and I appreciate all your hard work.

hi I’m here to report a problem concerning the photos.
In the Xanga Post Editor, there is the option to place photos onto your blog. But, there seems to be something wrong. No matter what I do (upload a photo, choose one, or directly connect one to a URL), no photo appears in any of my blogs.

Please read this!!! I know that you have the option to block people from your xanga. But they have a way of getting past that. All they have to do is either search your name or go through blogrings and go through there. The reason I know this is because I have a Stalker Module which list people who have visited at what time what day and etc. So please try to find a way to fix this problem. I know you have many other task in front of you right now. But please fix it when you get the chance. Thanks!

Stop updating everything to look like myspace. Myspace may have some extra things but it runs slowly, and they’re editing things and taking things down all the time. Its irritating. Now I personally have a problem with my internet to where fi something pops up it’ll closed down. And if I first make site, and have to click ‘upload profile picture’ guess what? A new window has to pop up. Me no likie that..and not many people liked the Xanga —..whatever it was called that made the layouts and homepages look different. So just please..stop messing with things!

I have reported a problem user to you several times now. I have chosen not to supply the user name in this comment; however I have supplied you with the user name in my complaints. You have not removed the problem user, in fact you haven’t even done me the courtesy of acknowledging my complaint. It’s nice to know that when a user violates your terms of use you do nothing. I only wish I had known that before becoming a member.
A while back you shut down one of my friend’s sites because he blogged from the point of view of his dogs. So let me get this straight, you can take the time to shut down a harmless site that in no way violates your terms of use, but you can’t be bothered to take care of an abusive user who does violate your terms of service?
I should not have to make all my posts protected because of one user. You make all these “improvements” such as flagging and ratings in the name of protecting your members but you can’t be bothered to protect your members from problem users?

i tried using the photos feature yesterday and it was such a disappointment
it’s incredibly slow, and adding captions and such is a very tedious click, edit, click back, click process – why can’t it be streamlined to allow batch editing? or enable clicking to the next picture in an album.. and the photo albums are very dumb, i accidentally put the same pictures in multiple times but they just kept upping the count of pictures; also some of the pictures i thought i had uploaded miraculously disappeared mid-process
This upsizing will push blogging to a whole new level…with xanga leading the way!

I have premium plus and it stinks because for some reason when I put the cursor over the “available sizes” and click on it. it reads “error on page” down on the toolbar and the sizes will not come up…. thus I can’t use anythig I’ve uploaded….. and I guess I’m just dense, but I can’t find anywhere that answers me when I ask WHY????? did I spend the extra money to have WORSE service?

Ditto that Brent ,I have the same problem with not being able to select photos in photo manager….. which means no background changes…… it stinks for the money spent…. and no one answers when you ask why….. and ask can it be fixed?

I’m so addicted to xanga…
um…. I don’t know where to go to ask this, so, I’ll just ask you. Whenever I try to log into my xanga account, a Microsoft Internet Explorer box pops up and tells me that my home page cannot be opened. I think maybe one of the icons I put on my page has given me a bug or something, but I don’t know how to get on it to change it. Can you help me fix it?

I just wanted to tell you that I fixed my site. I signed into my site and clicked on the stop button on my toolbar before the Microsoft Internet Explorer error box could come up. The box went away and I went into my look and feel and deleted all the recent html codes I had put into my site.
It worked.

=( Hello. I’m sure I’m not the only that’s requested this…. but PLEASE create a feature that blocks IP addresses or certain usernames from viewing our sites! I’ve browsed around Xanga and there are so many ppl that have to post 100% protected because of “stalkers”. The “block users” feature only blocks them from commenting – which doesn’t make sense. They don’t leave comments – that’s the problem! They’re just stalkers! Xanga lock is great except that it’s so easy for them to create a blank site for the sole purpose of stalking. PLEASE HELP!
question. . .if you are going to eventually make it unlimited for classic users too. . .then what will be the benefits of premium or plus users. i only have premium plus because of the photo storage and uploads.
i personally think all of these bells and whistles are a waste of energy. flickr for pictures, myspace for socializing, and xanga for blogging.
does email posting work? if not, maybe focus on the basics and dont try to incorporate everything and the kitchen sink.

Hey, I think you should know that for quite some time, the Currently Watching thing that you can put on your site has not been working. No matter what you type in, it just shows a little box with a red X in it when you go to Currently Watching and shows no results. But the same thing you type in shows things in other categories. Can the Xanga staff please fix that? Thanks!!!

You have only gone and changed this bloggy write thing to the new one again – I hate itttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt – It makes me totally unable to upload my day of the week picture (Which luckily I had already done yesterday)
Grief – If it ain’t broke – Don’t fix it XangaGuys! Please put it back or at least give us the choice of which one to use – I have premium and I hate this new thing which is a complete mess and has no drop down window for me to choose the specially in order pictures I uploaded.
If I cancel the premium service, would my old posting’s pictures be trunkated.

Hey, I’ve got a question. Today, when I went to update my xanga, I wanted to paste a survey for me to fill out so that i wouldn’t have to type it out for 20 minutes. When I tried to paste it though, it said “CHANGE THIS TO YOUR MESSAGE” instead. What gives? Is there anyway I could change it so that I’m able to paste what I want?

Seems to me – Your spellchecker cannot spell and don’t know when to just add a space
The Write-ya-blog box with no pic drop down window sends you on a very long winded way to get your own pics (Plus i much preferred the ease of use of the OLD one)
And – The pic sizes hasn’t worked in months and months and months.
Instead of continually adding things – Can you not just fix what you already have????

Why won’t the text editor revert back to plaintext for the iMac? Having premium or even classic is useless if the editor won’t work. The last time, it took a few days to be able to revert back to plaintext, but now it has been a few days this second time around, and it still won’t revert. I’ve emailed Xanga Central and nothing has changed. All I want is the plaintext or older version of text editor. If this has suddenly become impossible, please let me know so I can cancel premium.

Dont you think we should be able to CHOOSE TO add something to our video or pic blogs instead of having to be forced to tick the box to NOT have it there (Also the edit option doesnt work so you cant just edit it back – I had to delete it and start again) Some of us have premium as we do not want to add pictures for all and sundry to view! Please change the option to NOT have the pics in photoblog as default instead of the other way round – I do not want Videos of my children available accidentally for all and sundry to view!
And twice now i have uploaded a video – Only for it to tell me after the fact its uploaded yet when i click to choose – I AINT GOT NONE UPLOADED – Fcol – Sort it out

Hey, how do you look at the photos that have been ‘boosted’?
Why do you ignore people who pay you money so that their editor works and they can use the photo upload they paid for? I still cannot revert to plaintext either on iMac or Dell. I’ve had to go back to using photobucket because you continually upgrade without giving anyone the option whether they want the bells and whistles or not and when you do offer options, they don’t work. All I want is to revert to plaintext. Is that so much to ask for premium???????!!!!!!!!!

I HATE the way Xanga almost forces you to upload things to your photoblog by making it DEFAULT that it uploads there – They should make it by DEFAULT to NOT put them on show to all and sundry – Then you tick only if YOU ACTUALLY WANT THEM THERE!
Also – Now you are unable to change them to private cos that has stopped working – And you also cannot delete them – Cos that has stopped working too!
Oh and you have also kindly disabled the script I had that stopped people opening my pictures in another window! Thus protecting pictures of my children…
MAKES ME FEEL VERY PROTECTED NOW – NOT!!!!!

I guess it works for those who don’t want to do anything but post pics as is, but I don’t and would like the option of using the old way of posting pictures. This one doesn’t even work. this is why i love xanga! plus it doesn’t have the word blog in it and when we are in china, the govt doesn’t allow you to go to any site that has blog in the title. so with xanga, i have no problems!!! thank you sooo much!

I am thrilled that you are increasing the limit… but since this has happened i am unable to upload any photos to a post, or to change it from public to private, or to delete a post. I have a MAC OSX, but i’d think this should work on both Mac and PC.

I usually laugh at people who get pissy about changes made by the xanga staff, but whatever has been done to the editor has REALLY frustrated me! I’ve been trying to upload a picture but it refuses to appear on my post. Instead, it appears ABOVE the post I’m trying to write. What the hell!?
Good ideas and I can’t fault ya’ll for that, but in the process of making some of your changes xanga appears to have become less user friendly. I hope these bugs are worked out…. SOON!
These “improvements” are not working. You’re driving away the best writers, the ones who either don’t have the expensive setups they need to deal with your new “text editors” or whatever the hell they’re called, or folks like me, who don’t have the know-how to cope with all of the tricked-up gadgets that the teenagers understand how to use.
Can’t you AT LEAST reply to the complaints from old folks who want to continue to post here on Xanga, which for years has served us well as a community where we can find support and new friends and all the wonderful things that the Xanga gods don’t seem to realize they are destroying because we can’t cope with your “improvements” as you try to compete with MySpace?
