Beta Launch of Photo Albums
It’s finally here – Xanga supports photo albums! We’re still tweaking this feature, but most of the functionality is in place so we wanted to let everyone try it out right away. Here are some of the key features for albums:
- Make as many albums as you want
- “List” or “Unlist” albums to control who views them
- Custom ordering of photos inside an album – with cool new drag & drop controls (now live!)
We also added two big updates:
- Batch Privacy controls – make a whole page of photos public or private with one click
- Filmstrip style navigation when viewing photos in an photoblog or an album
Thanks to Janet, Dan, Matt and Marc, the photo page is really coming together - next, we’re looking into finding ways that you can feature your photoblogs and albums from your main xanga site.
In the meantime, for all of you that uploaded a bunch of photos into your manager, try it out – make an album, share an album, and let us know what you think!

Now that we can organize photos, can you guys at Xanga HQ make a way to organize blogs? I’d love some categorization ability…
this site is mighty helpful
pretty cool, but it took me a while to figure out how to use the album, because all the UI stuff is happening down at the bottom of the page. You ought to duplicate the controls at the top to make things easier.

This is great! But there is some more to add!
It is quite inconvenient to edit the photos one by one…
so I suggest to add the feature of batch editing tags and “include into photoblog”
Also it will be good if we dont have to load into a new page when we want to edit one photo…it is really time consuming if i have to edit so much photos
And please make it possible to view all photos in our photo manager becoz it is stupid for the batch function if we cannot see all the photos. Or at least let us select how many photos for one page.
I think we should be able to manage photos in the manager easily…so please add the function of view by tags in the manager….I know you have already put “albums” in the manager…maybe you should add one more that is “No Album” so we can see which photo we have missed.

Let me say that I do think this is a nice addition, but if you are going to capture the majority of the crowd then you need to make it easy for folks like me to make the switch.
I’m using flickr.
I plan on staying with flickr, though it’d be nice to import my pictures into xanga’s photo album cause they just might do a nice job.

I thought I’d let you know of 2 small glitches I found. First, my “view all tags” link is hovering over my tags rather than beneath them for some reason. Second, if I click on a picture that is not on page 1 of my photoblog, the new filmstrip repeats the same pictures on different pages. Pete.

what can i do to get my reviews and events to pop up… i coded the html like xangaskins says to do and when i click on them they just take me back to my front page… they have done this alot in the past and that is why i took the option away… but i would like to start up writing reviews again and stuff but i cannot seem to get them to pop up with the links… is there more to it than just putting up the link? who can i reach about this problem?

What would be really awesome is if the albums functioned like folders within the photo manager. Like, once put in a folder, they do not appear in the “unsorted” set that you see when you first go to the Photo Manager. That’d make use of the whole thing a lot easier.

I just made three albums and would love to see albums of other xangans. Can anyone tell me how and where to find all the albums?

Suggestion: Add “Create New Album” in drop down menu at the bottom of Photo Manager page.
Also, in Safari (Mac OS X) the check boxes cannot be selected.
Another thing, after photos have been selected to be placed within a particular album, there was no confirmation that the action occured (except the check marks have now disappeared). So, when I tried to do it again (and again, no confirmation, and the album listing on the sidebar remained at zero count), I went into the album itself and noticed duplicates.
Additional suggestions:
- confirmation of action taken (added images to album, etc.)
- refresh of album listing and image count immediately after action completes
- refuse duplicate images in single album
BTW, it’s good that a single image can belong within multiple albums for cross-categorization.

well i hope this will not just go on that over priced xanga premium. i think you should make alot of the things in premium for also the free version. things that arn’t costing xanga any money, like creating skins, and different tags. i understand the usage of disk space because that’ll fill up your servers but please add at least the xanga skins feature.

Good stuff. I have a suggestion:
When adding pictures to the photo albums, if you change pages, it dosn’t remember which ones were selected on the previous page, so you have to select the ones you want on a page, add them, go to the next page, add them, etc. Would it be possible to add a “single add” function, where you could select photos from multiple pages and press “add to album” once?
Okkk we need to do something so the photos disappear off the main manager once they are put in the albums.. ive been waiting for soemthing like this but i think it still needs some work!!! But congrats u guys!!!!!

can you please tell HQ to make multiple protected posting lists? that way we can turn them on and off as needed, but the groups can be presaved.

but yes, can we upload entire folders or at least have it easier to upload pictures by choosing them from a folder. instead of browsing for each individual picture, can we just open the folder adn click on 20+ pictures then upload at once? (kinda like facebook)

What else would be cool is if people could search post by the title rather than the date.
Then if i could creat groups of post from certain dates and title those groups. Say one group could be photoshop tutorials, another group could be movie reviews etc. Then my readers are not scouring through pages.
Or is that already possible?

since I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere else. I can’t seem to find a way to fix my profile so that it says I’m over 18. with this new rating system, a lot of the xangas ive been reading for years now have locked me out claiming i need to be 18 or older to see the same things and read the same things i saw when no one cared how old I was. When Im subscribed I can still read and open up their pictures but I can’t comment, and I’d like to be able to do that!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the new photo album feature. It is going to take a long time to get all my pix organized into albums, but once I get caught up it will be a great way to keep track of new uploads. However — I can’t get the ‘arrange photos’ to work. I drag and drop them into order, but then when I click ‘save’ nothing happens and it goes back the way it was. I hope this gets fixed, because some of my photos really need to go in chronological order to really make sense.

Hey, we’re finally getting somewhere! Now if we can only get to the point where we allow video blogging, I’ll be content. Embedded video is where it’s at. For me at least.
The upload changes are great as I use the xanga site for the classes I teach. However, today I uploaded photos that could not be placed on page. Crazy, right? I’ve written to tech support about this. I hope it is just one of those tweaking issues where you did something you should not have thus making it impossible to put photos in the blog.
I hope to hear from someone when this is corrected.
